SMS is the ability to send and receive text messages from your mobile phone; text can comprise words or numbers or an alphanumeric combination. It is a Store and Forward Service, i.e., messages are not sent directly from Sender to Recipient, but via an SMS Center.
Therefore the customer is not required to have their mobile phone active and within range, as the sent messages will be held for a number of days until the phone is active and within range. Users can activate the SMS feature of Confirmation of Message Delivery, so that users do not just send a message and hope it gets delivered, but they receive confirmation of delivery on their handset. So the Sender can rest easy.
Bmobile offers the following SMS Services
All bmobile's mobile customers, both Prepaid and Postpaid, can use this service. The service is automatically provisioned upon activation of the phone. So customers need only create their message and send. It's that simple!
Sending text messages is easy all mobile units are (MT) Message Terminating (i.e. able to receive messages) and (MO) Message Originating (i.e. able to send messages). A SMS message can only have a maximum of 160 characters (including spaces and special characters). If a message is longer than 160 characters, the message will be sent in two parts, and the sender will be charged for the number of messages sent. However, depending on the type of handset, the recipient will receive one message.
SMS is a network-enabled service, so nothing has to be done on the handset. The customer however has to request the removal of the service by coming into one of bmobile's Mobile Retail Stores or calling the bmobile Call Center. Customers can also send and receive SMS while roaming on any network that provides the service.
SMS is Instant Communication! A SMS message reaches its destination almost instantaneously. Instances where this may not occur are if the mobile is switched off or if the mobile user is out of a service area.
